Warm-up: Introducing the topic and defining our terms
- Today, we will be learning the names of some common flowers grown in Alberta gardens.
- What are flowers?
- What flowers have you seen in Edmonton or Alberta?
Skill-building activities
- Introducing Alberta garden flower vocabulary* (Rather than asking students the names of perhaps unfamiliar plants, this activity gives them the names along with images.)
- Vocabulary tip tiles* (Click on each image to reveal the name.)
- Let’s listen to the vocabulary again. (Ask students to pay attention to the pronunciation and meaning of the words. Think about what the flowers look like. Focus on the singular and plural forms.)
