Christmas and other feasts

The lesson plan will teach your beginner ESL students about a traditional Canadian Christmas dinner and will also encourage discussions about their own cultural traditions.

Following a recipe: Making Christmas shortbread

Teach your beginner ESL students basic recipe vocabulary, using the example of Christmas shortbread.

This lesson plan offers warm-up activities (including a short video) as well as skill-building and assessment tasks.

Students will learn some cooking verbs and ingredients, follow recipe instructions, and learn about the mix of measurements used in Canada.

Finally, students can share festive recipes from their own cultures.

Going through airport Customs

This time of year, many of your students will be heading back to their home countries or to other destinations. Equip them with the essential vocabulary for going through airport Customs.

Designed for CLB Stage I learners, this lesson plan includes vocabulary development, a short video, and several practice role plays to help students understand the questions they may encounter during Customs inspections.

Week of Nov. 17/25

This lesson plan teaches your beginner ESL students basic words and phrases needed for asking for help in a grocery store.

The lesson starts by identifying some grocery items and where they belong in the grocery store.

The lesson then offers practice activities, including a short video and role plays, to help students ask a grocery clerk for help finding these items.
