This lesson plan teaches the cardinal numbers from one to twenty to beginner ESL students (CLB 1). Activities help students to learn the English words and to match numbers and written-out forms. Students also discuss their feelings about math and how it is taught in their first country compared to here in Canada.

This lesson plan teaches ordinal numbers to beginner ESL students. Activities include vocabulary practice, digital and spelled-out numbers, short video and audio activities, and some examples of when to use ordinal numbers. Students also discuss their feelings about math and how it is taught in their first country compared to here in Canada.

Week of May 5/25

This lesson plan teaches ESL students the names for seasons and months, with a focus on the seasons in Alberta. Activities include identifying and describing seasons and months, discussing appropriate clothing for each season, and comparing Alberta’s weather with their home countries.

Week of Apr. 28/25

Check out this new online lesson plan for beginning ESL students on how to tell time in English. The lesson links telling time to students’ ordinary daily routines. Resources include video and audio activities, vocabulary practice, quizzes, and reflection questions.
