Teach your beginner ESL students basic recipe vocabulary, using the example of Christmas shortbread.

This lesson plan offers warm-up activities (including a short video), and skill-building and assessment tasks.

Students will learn some cooking verbs and ingredients, follow recipe instructions, and learn about the mix of measurements used in Canada.

Finally, students will be able to share festive recipes from their own cultures.

Week of Nov. 17/25

Teach your beginner ESL students basic words and phrases needed for asking for help in a grocery store. The lesson starts by identifying some grocery items and where they belong in the grocery store. The lesson then offers practice activities, including a short video and role plays, to help students ask a grocery clerk for help finding these items.

Week of Feb. 24/25

This lesson plan teaches your beginner ESL students the basic vocabulary for some common grocery items and where to find them in the store. The lesson includes activities such as vocabulary-building and practice exercises, video and audio activities, and opening and closing questions. The session focuses on speaking, listening, and reading skills as well as promoting cultural understanding of Canadian grocery shopping.
